 Principal's Message

Dear Cheetah Community,

October is Safety Month in MVWSD. Don’t forget that the districtwide earthquake drill is next Tuesday, Oct 21. We have reviewed our procedures, and we are ready to practice. Parents, since students will be outside for approximately one hour, please plan to apply sunscreen to your child in the morning and have them bring a hat if they’re sun-sensitive. Please reassure your child that drills are our way of practicing for an emergency.

In the event of an emergency, like an earthquake, it’s possible that circumstances are not safe enough for us to release students as we typically do at the end of the school day. In an emergency, parents should not rush to school, but instead wait for updates from email, on mvwsd.org, social media and text/phone calls. So we know all students are accounted for, our schools will release students systematically to authorized adults when it’s safe. Please review our parent-student reunification procedures here

  • When parents begin arriving to check out their children, they will need to go to the Student Release Gate. This is located near the sign that says “Stevenson Field”

  • Parents need to:

    • Get in the line on the path that goes down towards the field

    • Present identification to verify they are authorized to pick up requested student(s).

    • Sign the Student Release form as the person receiving student(s).

    • Receive a ticket or card identifying him or her as a person authorized to pick up the student and stand in the Parent Reunion zone. You will be directed there by our staff.

    • A runner with a corresponding ticket or card will go to the student holding area and give the ticket to the adult in charge.

    • Once their child arrives at the Reunion Gate parent and child give their tickets to a staff member

    • Parent and child should leave the campus immediately

Emergencies may never happen, but if they do, we’ll be better protected and more able to help ourselves and others. For more details about safety at school, please see https://www.mvwsd.org/safety.

Join Me for Principal/PTA Coffee this Friday at 8:15! Research Based Learning!!

Hello Parents! With the spirit of conference week, this Friday we will be talking about research based data that shows how parents can be most effective in supporting their child in school! I look forward to our great conversation. I am preparing reading materials that I will have  translated into Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin, and Russian. If you plan on coming and you speak a different language than written above, please let me know and I will translate the reading material for your preferred language as well!

Costume Parade Friday, October 31 - 8:15-8:30am Blacktop

We will have a school wide costume parade on the blacktop. We will start to make two lines at 8:10. We will then have each grade level walk through the two lines to show off their costume. We will cheer and clap. If you prefer your child is not a part of this costume parade, please let their teacher know and we will have a separate fall activity for them during that 15 minutes!

Costume Reminders:

  • No masks allowed so we can see everyone’s face.

  • No hand held “props” will be allowed out at recess, feel free to take these home after the parade.

  • Violence – no pretend “prop” weapons at all allowed on campus such as guns, knives, or swords. We would like to promote costumes that align with our values of being kind and inclusive.

  • Appropriateness – costumes cannot promote violence or be offensive or inappropriate in any way.

Reading Sleepover - Wednesday, November 5th from 5-6:15pm. TK - 5th grade

Dinner will be provided from 5-5:25pm. Then parents will gather in separate classrooms to learn about Reading and Writing!  Students will be all together in the MUR participating in literacy activities and a final giveaway at the end! Please feel free to wear your PJs and bring a blanket or sleeping bag to set up in the MUR. It will be a night filled with learning, community, and the love of literacy!

In partnership,

Principal Danielle Lyons

 School News

Important Notice RE: Items dropped off during school hours.

One of our core values at Theuerkauf is Responsibility. There has been a large increase in items forgotten and dropped off items during the day. Sometimes it is challenging to get items to students in a timely manner and we want to minimize interruptions of lessons during class time so all students can stay focused on their education.

Please support your child at home by going through a quick checklist before leaving: Warm jacket, hat or gloves if needed, lunch box, backpack, instrument, homework, etc.

Thank you for supporting our core value of Responsibility and minimizing classroom interruptions.

If you do need to drop off a forgotten item please label it with the following so there is no confusion or mix ups. Please note that the office staff will do their best to get it to the students in a timely manner:

  1. Student name

  2. Grade

  3. Teacher and Room #

Arts Wheel / Prop 28 Update - Registration has closed, and we are working on organizing students into classes now! If you are a kindergarten student and still want to sign up, please email me directly. We need more kinders! [email protected]

Vision and Hearing Screenings

MVWSD conducts hearing and vision screenings of all students in TK/kindergarten, second-, fifth- and eighth-grade, as California State Law mandates. These screenings will take place:

  • at Theuerkauf on October 21 and 22

Parents will be notified in writing if children fail a screening. Parents who do not want their child screened for either vision and/or hearing should send a letter to their child's school each school year indicating that their child is to be excluded, and vision and/or hearing results will need to be provided by their physician.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision or hearing, please contact your school nurse. Questions about the screenings should be directed to the Health Services office at 650-526-3500 ext. 1050.
