Dear Cheetah Community,

Parent University - English Language Proficiency Assessment California (ELPAC)

If your child is working on becoming English proficient, join us this Thursday on Zoom to learn more about the testing students will take part in at the end of January or February. During this presentation from our ELPAC coordinator, Ms. Gayatri Ratnam, we will provide you with an overview of testing and some ways you can support your child. This year we reclassified 9 students!

Learn more on Thursday, December 14th from 6-7pm.

Safety Issue! Drop off Procedures

Cars should not be double parking to drop off your child. At no time should a child be crossing in front of another car. They should be using a crosswalk, sidewalk or be dropped off right at the loading zone curbside.

Reminder of Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures:

  1. If dropping off/picking up at the side gate come down San Luis Ave on the right side and wait in the car line. If dropping off in front of the school, wait in line or park in a parking spot and use the sidewalk to walk to the front of the building.

  2. Drive into the drop off location and let your child off at the yellow line that is right at the sidewalk.

  3. Wish your child a great day at school and carefully pull out of the drop off zone and continue on to have a great day!

  4. If you would like to volunteer to support pick up or drop off in the morning, please let me know! This volunteer opportunity comes with a stylish yellow vest!

Thank you for doing your part to keep all students safe.

iReady Diagnostic Reports - Friday Dec. 15th at 4pm.

Director, Swati Dagar, had a great Parent university about how to read your iready diagnostic report as well as all academic reports. Here is the video recording so you can get step by step instructions on what the report is telling you and the best way to read the reports. Now is a great time to continue to check in on goals that you discussed at parent teacher conferences.

Knowing students' strengths and areas for improvement is a great way for parents to support students at home. Parents can access their child’s i-Ready Diagnostic 2 reports beginning at 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 on the PowerSchool Parent Portal(https://ps.mvwsd.org/public/)Steps for accessing PowerSchool Parent Portal i-Ready Reports are here:https://www.mvwsd.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=418858&pageId=13218267#powerschool

All district parent universities have been recorded, so if you missed out on one feel free to watch it on your own time. I notice one is about “Self Care for Parents!”. The goal behind parent universities is to empower adults to help their child thrive.

Attendance update TK-5th!

As of now we are at 95.22% attendance rate. That’s a one percentage point increase!  Let’s keep that number moving up to at least 97%!  Please continue to get your child to school on time so they get to be a part of all of the great learning happening at Theuerkauf. Try setting alarm clocks, packing the backpacks and picking out clothes the night before or creating a morning checklist of tasks for your child to check off independently! Please reach out if you want a brainstorming partner!

SPIRIT WEEK next week! (12/18-12/22)

Attendance

Please call the 24hour automated Attendance Line at 650-903-6925, X4680 or email  [email protected]  to report an absence or late arrival.  Provide the following information: date of absence, student’s name, grade and room number, reason for absence, name and relationship of the person reporting the absence. After reporting a COVID positive absence on the attendance line or by email click here to fill out the COVID reporting form. When you have a doctor or dentist appointment, please bring your note so the tardiness or absent will be excused. If we do not hear from you within 72 hours, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Please let us know how we can support your student. Thank you

Gate Locking Communication

For student and staff safety, it's very important for our school to limit points of entry during school hours. As you know, we have been working on enabling the locks on our field gates during the school day. Beginning Nov. 27, the field gates will be locked from the outside shortly after the last morning bell rings. It is very important that we eliminate tardiness so students get the education they deserve right from the first bell. However, if they are tardy, please have them go in through the front office and pick up a tardy slip from Ms. Gaby or Ms. Sherri. If there is anything we can do to support on time arrival for school. Please reach out. Parents will be able access school field gates for student pick up when the dismissal bell rings. The public will continue to have access to school fields on weekends and on weekday evenings after 4 p.m. at elementary schools and after 5 p.m. at middle schools.  If the gates malfunction after hours, you can call (650) 526-3248 x1004. Thank you for supporting our safety procedures.
