April 8, 2022

Hello Theuerkauf Families,

Everyone has been working extremely hard this year, and we are now in the final stretch before the end of the school year. Please remember that we do not have school next week because Mountain View Whisman School District will be on spring break from April 11-15. Please enjoy your much deserved Spring Break. Please take some time to unwind, disconnect, and take care of yourself.

Mark your calendar: Administer your child's COVID Test on 4/18/22

Please note that parents and staff members have once again received free COVID test kits from schools throughout our district this week. Check your child's backpack if you have not yet seen their test kit. Please remember to administer the free at-home COVID test kit to your child on April 17, right before returning to school on April 18. If your child has symptoms or a positive result, he/she must stay home. Please see https://www.mvwsd.org/returntolearn for detailed COVID information. Have a safe and restful time away.

CAASPP Test: Cheetahs are Champions!

Beginning on April 26th, Theuerkauf students in grades 3-5 will start CAASPP Testing. Students will complete the ELA CAASPP test from April 26-29, and they will take the Math CAASPP test from May 3-5. Our 5th grade students will then continue on to take the science test from May 10-13. All students will test in the morning hours, before lunch. Please avoid scheduling appointments during these times. Thank you for your support!

Below are some tips you may find useful to help prepare your child for the CAASPP assessment:

  • Explain to your child that it is important to do his/her best.

  • Provide positive reinforcement and encourage your child each day.

  • Keep the test in perspective. We want students to do their best, but please make sure they understand that it is only one test. Remind them that if they are doing their best, you are proud.

  • Make sure your child gets an ample, normal amount of sleep the night before the test

  • Make sure to arrive on time each day.

  • Eat a nice, healthy breakfast.

  • Keep a positive attitude about testing around your child. Remind them that this is a time to show what they know.

As a school, there will be tons of encouragement and excitement that we share with our students as we near our testing date. If you would like a FUN spring break project that would also help encourage students, please consider working as a family to write notes of encouragement for our 3rd-5th graders. A simple, "You've got this!" or "Take a deep breath and try your best!" will go a long way to encourage kids to shine bright and give it their all.

As always, thank you for your collaboration and partnership. Together, we make a difference!

Have a beautiful Spring Break!

Yours in service,

Michelle Williams, Principal

Traffic Safety Committee

If you would like to discuss ways to better protect our students and encourage safety on the roads surrounding our school, please respond to this email with your name, child's name, and your preferred time to meet of day to meet. A meeting invitation will be sent during the week after the break.

Reminder: Please upload your child’s completed vaccine card

When your child's vaccine card has their second shot listed, please upload a copy to Powerschool. Vaccine cards will be referred to in the case of a positive COVID exposure for your student, and MVWSD needs accurate data for decisions about COVID protocols. Click here for a video that shows you how to upload documents: https://vimeo.com/606954357. Thank you in advance for uploading your documents now!

Reminder: Principal’s Virtual Office Hours

This is just a friendly reminder that you are invited to join me each Wednesday for our informal Principal Office Hours (virtual through Zoom) from 4pm - 5:00pm. Feel free to drop in if you have any questions or if you just want to chat. For office hours, there is no formal agenda, it is a time for you to stop in to say hello, and for us to get to know each other better! I look forward to seeing you!

Our PTA Board for 2022-23 is almost formed, but we still need a Treasurer!

Our diligent and beloved treasurer would love to continue, but State PTA rules allow that role to be held for only 2 years. She will of course do a handover and teach you the software, which she says is very easy and straightforward.

Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping with this.

Congratulations to our basket drawing and Yearbook Cover Contest winners!

Congratulations to Ezio R. from Room 15 for winning the sports basket drawing - have fun!

Congratulations to our talented artists: Ivan G. from Room 9 and Viktoriia S. from Room 15! You did a fantastic job capturing the theme of "Better Together" and your artwork will be featured on the cover of the Yearbook!

Both outdoor and indoor masking is strongly recommended (but no longer required) for students and staff in our schools and offices. However, there are times that masks are still very highly recommended.

Multi-use rooms opened for food distribution this week as a result of loosened COVID restrictions. Students will wear masks as they pick up food indoors. Outdoor eating will continue.
